Q: If I was a complete newbie and never heard of a Gap Year before what would be the 3 best reasons you would say someone should go on a Gap Year trip?
It's so hard to choose… there are many good reasons to take a gap year or a gap trip (it doesn't have to be 12 months… it could be 1,2,3,4 – really any period you would like).
The top reasons I would give are:
- It's a chance to explore and broaden your cultural knowledge
- It'll boost your CV – whether you are working abroad, volunteering or simply exploring, you will develop skills like independence, confidence or even a language if you're there for long enough ;)!
- Make your dreams come true – cheesy right but so so true! Tick something off your bucket list and make the most of life!
Q: There are so many choices out there, you have over 200 trips at Gap360, how do you decide on where to go on your Gap Year?
I know there is a lot of choice but it's something we are proud of!
We offer free advice and our travel advisors have plenty of that from their own experiences, so they are always on hand to help you decide. We can easily narrow down your choice by what you want to do and the type of experience you are looking for, the time period you have available and your weather preferences (for example).
Q: What changes have you seen in the last few years in the Gap Year industry, do you see things changing much in the future?
Over the last few years the Gap Year market has really expanded. It is the rise of the intrepid traveler!
We also have access to so much more than ever before so we are faced with a lot more choice and people like to be different. We are seeing more and more people ditching their fortnight in Greece for a fortnight in Vietnam, South Africa, or Peru for example.
Something in particular we have noticed is a large growth in Working Holidays... and why not!? Who wouldn't want to ditch their summer time check out job in the rainy UK for job in Australia where it's sun all year round! If you are offered the chance to come back from traveling with more money than when you left why wouldn't you leap at the opportunity?!
Q: Can you tell me a bit about Gap360 and how it all began?
It all began back in 2011 by 3 industry experts who combined have 30+ years of experience in travel. The company has since grown at a fast pace and we have recently opened an office in the USA!!
Gap 360 essentially helps people head off on their adventures. We offer a variety of experiences in 50+ destinations so there is something for every type of traveler. After all variety is the spice of life ;).
Q: What are you excited about in the next 12 months at Gap360?
Plenty but you'll have to wait and see ;)!!
Q: If you were going on a Gap Year what would be the 5 most essential things that you would take?
Oooo… that's tricky! This really depends where you are going but for me, my five essential would be:
1. Camera – I get a little snap happy – but you gotta' capture those moments!
2. Phrase book – always useful "Soy vegetariana – saved me in S.America"
3. A Towel – there's nothing like your own towel!
4. Sun Cream – Skincare guys!!
5. Hmmm and finally… a good old fanny pack – they're back in fashion now you know!
