Q. Can you tell us a bit about Lake Garda and what makes it a great place for sailing?
Lake Garda is based in Northern Italy and is known around the world for it's great sailing conditions. The thermal winds which start from the North in the morning and switch to the south in the afternoon, provide some of the most productive training conditions you can find at a sailing venue. With warm weather and spectacular views of the mountains, Lake Garda is a very special place to sail.
Q. How about the local area - on free evenings, what can students see and do?
After sailing there are many other activities possible on Lake Garda, mountain biking, climbing and trekking to mention a few.
If sailing was active enough for you then there are several small towns on the Lakes edge and in the Mountains all with many bars and restaurants. Campione and Torbole, where our centres are based at two of these towns.
Q. Do you need any previous sailing experience to take your course?
To complete our 11 day our RYA Dinghy Instructor course you need to be a competent sailor able to demonstrate sailing on all points of sail in a variety of different conditions and have an understanding of the seamanship skills, although these are covered on the training days.
Q. Why should students consider taking an RYA Instructor course in Italy rather than the UK?
Our conditions are ideal. With thermal winds, which you can set your watch by, and warm weather, you can achieve lots more on the water than other sailing venues.
Q. What percentage of students pass your course and become qualified RYA instructors?
95% pass rate so far.
Q. After completing your course, what do most students go on to do?
Some apply to work with us here on Lake Garda and others have gone on to work in the UK and other countries in Europe teaching at RYA training centres. By completing a course with us you get to experience a RYA training centre based in Europe.
