Q. Hi, Can you tell me a little bit about Mount Batten and what type of Courses you offer?
The Mount Batten Centre is superbly situated on the shores of Plymouth Sound, giving easy access to the stunning coastal waters of South Devon. The Centre delivers a wide range of land and water based activities to the people of Plymouth and further afield. We are presently offering; an Intensive Instructor training course, Royal Yachting Association and British Canoeing courses, a Schools and Youth programme providing both residential, non-residential and school holiday activities, Duke of Edinburgh Residentials and BTEC support programmes working in partnership with local schools.
Q, On your Intensive Instructor course you cover off a lot of land and water based activities in the duration of the course you must have to be really fit to manage all of those in 13 weeks?
You do need a reasonable level of fitness to get the most on our Intensive Instructor course - but we are not looking for triathletes! The course is structured to ease people into the training so that by the end of the course when they are being assessed as instructors they are hitting peak fitness
Q, Your are based in a great location in Plymouth do you get time during the courses to see much of the area?
Of course! During the course we'll make use of the stunning South Devon coastline for powerboating, sea kayaking and sailing, the white water rivers of Devon for canoeing and kayaking and Dartmoor for mountain biking, walking and climbing.
Q, What are the career options available to people once they have done a course at Mount Batten?
We've seen that people who have completed Intensive Instructor Training with Mount Batten have gone on to work at multi-activity centres abroad and in the UK, Youth Work, the Pleasure Yacht sector and within the retail sector for the Outdoors Industry

What makes you stand out from the crowd? We understand that the industry is looking for instructors that have a broad-range of qualifications and experience in both land and water based activities. That's why on our programme we'll cover Dinghy Sailing, Powerboating, Canoeing, Kayaking on white water rivers and sea, Stand up Paddleboarding, Rock Climbing and Mountain Biking - alongside first aid, session delivery skills and careers guidance
Q, Are there any exciting things happening at Mount Batten in the next 6 months?
We are really excited about our Intensive instructor training course starting very soon, hosting the Race Village for the Fastnet Race, delivering an adventure race and adding some exciting new Stand up Paddleboarding programmes including SUP Yoga and SUP Race training in 2015
Q, Thanks a lot for you time is there any final advice you can give to people coming to do the intensive instructor training course with you?
The Intensive instructor training course at Mount Batten gives you a solid stepping stone into the exciting ,fast-paced Outdoors sectors. Be prepared to work hard but with the ultimate goal of finishing the course with a broad range of highly valued qualifications which will make you sought after as an Instructor both in the UK and abroad!
